As wedding photographers we’ve worked with many amazing vendors in the wedding industry. One of my absolute favorites that I have worked with through the years is, Laura from Blush & Bay. She specializes in floral design, but has worked with one of the top wedding planning companies in Colorado. She truly knows everything there is to know about making a wedding flow, but more importantly she has a knack for floral design. Learn more about Laura, how she started and what she thinks the floral trend will be in 2018 below!
How long have you been a florist? Where are you based?
I learned floral design working for another Colorado based event production company, almost 10 years ago, and fell in love with it! I decided to pour my efforts into my own venture in 2014 when I started Blush & Bay and focus now on floral design and event decor. We are based in the West Highland neighborhood in Denver.
What sparked your interest in floral design? And specifically with weddings?
After learning floral design I realized I had a knack for it and just kept expanding my knowledge of floral varieties and improving at the art form. After taking a hiatus from weddings and flowers to plan corporate events for a few years, I found myself really missing floral design and realized that was where I was supposed to be! It is fun to play with different styles and challenge myself to create a unique design or construct an arrangement out of florals that aren’t my “norm”.
Growing up I always had a passion for parties, events and decorating and after graduating from CSU I found myself trying to find a place in the event planning industry. I was lucky enough to land an internship that gave me invaluable knowledge and a lot of different experiences in high end wedding planning, and though crazy and fast paced, I keep finding my way back to weddings! For one, weddings are made for florals and florals are my favorite thing. I also love the happiness and raw emotion that is everywhere on a wedding day. I still cry during the first dance!
Do you have a floral “style”?
I like to think that my style is flexible enough to please a variety of clients’ visions but for the most part it is classic and contemporary. Not super tight and not over the top loose and gardeny but fun and fashion forward.
What services do you offer? What do you think makes you stand out from other florists?
I offer floral design for all types of events, as well as decor rentals and rental management. Aside from the style of my floral design, I think my clients love the ease and enjoyment of working with me. I know what it’s like to be a bride, I know the ins and outs of logistics and management and I know what it’s like to be in every body’s shoes, which allows me to offer a fun and easy process the whole way through. I am flexible and easy to work with and I want brides to have as little stress as possible when planning their wedding.
What do you love most about working with brides?
I have been so lucky to work with the sweetest couples and their families, who I get to call my friends after the big day! Most understand that we are working hard for them and our relationship is a true partnership to execute their vision.
What is the floral “trend” for 2017? What do you think is next for 2018?
The big trend in 2017 was greenery, greenery, greenery, and neutral flowers which has been so fresh and elegant. I don’t think greenery is going anywhere in 2018 but I foresee more color next year!
